Carol Brown
Most of you, by now, know Carol Brown, and know all of the wonderful work that she has done to help build this apostolate to where it is today.  What many of you may not have known, however, is that while volunteering for Salt & Light she was simultaneously serving as the Director of Capstone Missions, homeschooling her three boys, and running her parish Vacation Bible School, etc.  Now, Carol is amazing, but there was just not enough of her to go around...  So, after careful consideration and spiritual counseling, Carol made the very difficult decision to resign her position from Capstone Missions and assume a part-time paid position with Salt & Light Radio as our Director of Marketing and Community Outreach.
We feel very honored and blessed that Carol has found her calling here, and we expect great things from her in the coming year going from volunteer to staff member.  As illustrated in the other included article, there is just so much to be done at Salt & Light Radio, in terms of broadening our listener and donor bases, and Carol brings with her an amazing skill-set to make that happen.  With a background in logistics in the military, there are few people as organized as Carol Brown! Perhaps most important to our organization, however, is the depth of Carol's love for Jesus Christ and His Church.  She is woman of God, and we praise Him and thank Him for the manifold gifts that He has bestowed and will continue to bestow on Salt & Light Radio through Carol Brown!

"Touching" Our Listeners
On Friday, January 27th, the Executive Teams of KGEM, KTFI and KCID met for a day of "strategic planning" at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Boise.  We are so grateful to Monsignor Dennis Wassmuth and Mike Schauble for graciously providing the facilities and to the volunteers who kindly supplied the food and drinks for lunch and breaks.
We had a great day of discussions, kicked off by a presentation from Mr. Tom Gay, of 22 Touch Systems, LLC, a business consultancy here in Boise, focused on helping organizations build their support base through a disciplined system of "touches", building referrals to other supporters through multiple channel contacts (or "touches), to drive growth and loyalty.  Tom readily admits that his approach is not something particularly novel or earth-shattering, but that any organization which embraces it will absolutely flourish, in good times or bad.  Although most of Tom's clients are for-profit businesses, the principles he shared were equally relevant to Salt & Light Radio and should arguably be incorporated in any parish evangelization or development plan.  Please look for us to do a better job of "touching" you this year!

Other topics discussed and key goals for the year:
1.  Of Pledge Drives, Pillars and Underwriters...  Wade is that "man with the plan"!  We need to keep the momentum up, to solidify our financial base and get the debt retired.
2.  Building out our Parish Missionaries program + hosting a Family Conference with a nationally recognized speaker:  With Carol Brown now full-force (see next article) with Salt & Light Radio as our Director of Marketing/Community Outreach, these two vital efforts are going to be launched, as well as better recruiting, utilizing and recognizing our volunteers.
3.  Enhancement of the Catholic Idaho hour and the development of a teen/20-something locally-hosted program:  We will be working hard to increase our locally-originated programming this year, to compliment the EWTN programming.
4.  Refinancing of note and increased focus on codifying operational procedures:  Perhaps the biggest take-away was Bill Teske's insight that we need to "tighten up" all of our operational areas, by documenting what it is that we're doing and in so doing make it easier to transition tasks and train volunteers to help get the work done.
There's clearly a LOT of work to do in 2012!  Please pray for us that we can continue to do God's work and be Salt & Light in our communities.
Change Our Ways,
Change Our Heart
Hard to believe, but Lent will be coming before we know it -- Ash Wednesday is February 22nd.  Our Catholic faith is so brilliant in its wisdom -- giving us 40 days to change our ways, to change our hearts to experience more deeply the love of our Lord in his Passion, Death and Resurrection.  We are called in this season to fast, do penance and give alms, in order to help us make these changes.  Well, Salt & Light Radio has a challenge for you --> put your television in the garage for 40 days and commit to listening to a new program on the radio to enhance your spiritual life!  Now, we're sure that some of you have cable and watch a lot of EWTN television...  O.K., but trust us -- you will not regret your decision.  The noise level in your home will go down.  Your stress level will go down.  The amount of time that you spend reading will go up.  The amount of time you spend speaking with your loved ones will definitely go up.  Go ahead -- take the plunge!  You can do it, and everyone at Salt & Light Radio will be praying for you!
Salting the Earth
As a realtor, I am frequently in my car driving around listening to the radio. Last year I came across a station that had familiar music from my childhood. I recognized it as Mass music and I was drawn to what was being said. I had been away from the Catholic church for 30 years. That day impacted my life. I re-examined my faith and stayed tuned in to the station. I was surprised to hear about the Catholic church of today, all the current ministries and evagelization efforts. It sparked my interest and I went to talk to a priest and ultimately went to confession. It was life changing.
Today I want to be a light for the world in the heart of Christ. Salt & Light Radio made a difference in my life and I hope it can touch other souls in this secular world.
